For Free-Spirited Wedding Days

Canvas tipis, festoon lights, carefree love.

I’m Paul Ovenden of Paul Mindy Photography — an award-winning Norfolk wedding photographer specialising in festival and tipi weddings. A canvas-tipi or festival-style wedding deserves photography and film that match the energy: relaxed, atmospheric and full of soul. From golden-hour portraits outside the tipi to late-night dancing under festoon lights, I capture your story as it unfolds.

Regular coverage across Norfolk’s tipi pitches, marquee venues, stretch-tent setups and outdoor festival-style spaces — with travel to Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and UK-wide on request.

Why Festival Days Work So Well

Big canvas, big sky, even bigger atmosphere.

Festival and tipi weddings have a magic that traditional venues can’t quite match — the warm glow of canvas at golden hour, festoon lights against deep blue sky, dancefloor energy under giant Nordic tipi peaks, the wrap-around feeling of being together in your own outdoor space. Everything’s relaxed, everything’s yours, everything photographs beautifully.

That’s why couples planning festival-style weddings need a photographer who genuinely loves these venues — not someone who shows up expecting indoor manor-house light and gets thrown by canvas-filtered ambience. 15+ years of tipi and festival weddings means I work with the natural light, not against it.

It’s the same documentary wedding photography ethos I bring to every Norfolk wedding — tuned to the relaxed, open-air energy of a festival day.

What You Get

Three things festival days need.

Documentary style

No stiff posing — I document your festival vibe as it unfolds, from arrival drinks through ceremony to late-night dancing under string lights. Real moments first, gentle direction only when it helps.

One-photographer hybrid

Photo and video covered by me alone — no big crew cluttering up your tipi or blocking the dancefloor. One calm presence, consistent style across stills and film.

Drone & 360°

Festival venues are made for cinematic drone work — tipi peaks from above, festoon-lit grounds, surrounding meadows. 360-degree coverage adds immersive ceremony memories. Where venue and weather allow.

Festival Structures I Cover

Every canvas, every kind.

Nordic-style tipis

Giant Nordic-hat canvas tipis — the iconic wedding tipi shape with pointed peaks, often connected in groups of two or three for ceremony and reception spaces.

Stretch tents

Modern fabric stretch tents with sculptural curves, often used for ceremony cover or chill-out spaces alongside main tipis. Beautiful lighting transitions.

Traditional marquees

Classic pole-and-canvas marquees with traditional charm. Larger capacity, often paired with separate ceremony tents or outdoor ceremony spaces.

Sailcloth tents

Elegant sailcloth tents with translucent canvas that glows beautifully at sunset and twilight. Premium festival-style aesthetic.

Yurts

Round canvas yurts with their distinctive shape and intimate scale. Often used for smaller festival-style weddings or as ceremony spaces.

DIY festival setups

Self-built festival-style wedding setups in fields, woodland clearings or private land — pop-up bars, food trucks, lawn games, the whole vibe.

Local Knowledge

Norfolk is festival-wedding country.

Norfolk has one of the best concentrations of tipi-friendly venues and outdoor wedding spaces in England — open meadows, woodland clearings, coastal fields, working farms with marquee permits. 15+ years across these venues means I know which spaces handle weather contingencies well, how the light moves through canvas, and where the best portrait spots are at each location. Common Questions

Festival wedding FAQs

Practical answers about tipi light, weather contingencies and festival-style logistics. Anything else? Send a message — replies within 24 hours.

How do you handle the tricky canvas light inside a tipi?

Canvas-filtered light is one of my favourite things to shoot — warm, soft, sculptural, especially when the sun catches the canvas walls. The trickier part is the transition between bright outdoor light and softer interior light, which catches photographers without the right gear off-guard.

15+ years of tipi weddings means I shoot natively to the canvas-filtered look rather than killing it with flash. Modern full-frame gear handles the low light beautifully.

What if it rains on the day?

British weather is what it is — and tipis are built for it. The whole point of canvas wedding tipis is they create a beautiful sheltered space whatever the weather. Some of my favourite festival-wedding photos have been shot in light rain or atmospheric mist outside, with the tipi interior glowing warmly.

We always plan for both scenarios at the timeline stage — outdoor portraits if the weather plays nice, tipi-interior coverage if not. Either way, the day photographs beautifully.

Can you photograph a multi-day festival-style wedding?

Yes — this is one of the things festival-style weddings often involve. Welcome night, full wedding day, recovery brunch — or sometimes longer stretches at private estates. Multi-day coverage is offered as bespoke packages rather than standard tiers, and significantly better value than booking event-by-event.

Do you cover stretch tents, sailcloth, yurts and other festival structures too?

Yes — tipis, stretch tents, sailcloth tents, traditional marquees, yurts, and DIY festival setups are all in regular rotation. Each canvas style has its own light and feel, but the documentary-cinematic approach works across all of them.

Do you include drone and 360° for festival weddings?

Yes — UK CAA licensed for drone and fully insured. Festival venues photograph spectacularly from above — tipi peaks, festoon-lit grounds, surrounding meadows, the whole celebration laid out. 360-degree coverage adds immersive memories of ceremony spaces and the dancefloor.
