A relaxed session, just the two of you.
Looking for an engagement or pre-wedding photographer in Norfolk? A pre-wedding shoot is the easiest way to feel at ease in front of the camera long before your wedding day.
I’m Paul Ovenden of Paul Mindy Photography, an award-winning Norfolk wedding photographer. An engagement session is a relaxed hour or two in a setting you love — no big timeline, no awkward posing, just the two of you. It’s the same calm documentary approach I bring to the wedding itself, and it means that on the day, the camera already feels like a friend rather than a stranger. See the full Norfolk wedding photographer page for the broader style, or compare wedding photography packages if you’re also planning your wedding-day coverage.
Three reasons couples are glad they did.
Camera confidence
The first time in front of a lens shouldn’t be your wedding day. An engagement session gets the nerves out early, so on the day you’re relaxed and natural.
We get to know each other
By the time your wedding arrives, I’m a familiar face, not a stranger with a camera. That trust shows in every photo — you’re at ease because we’ve done this before.
Photos you’ll actually use
Save-the-dates, guest-book images, framed prints, your wedding website — a pre-wedding shoot gives you a gallery of relaxed portraits well before the big day.
How a session actually runs.
- A relaxed hour or two in a location that means something to you
- Light, natural direction — never stiff posing or “hold it there”
- A walk, a chat, a few prompts — the photos happen in between
- A gallery of edited images delivered to a private online gallery
- Perfect for save-the-dates, prints and your wedding website
Settings across Norfolk.
Coast, countryside, woodland or city — we’ll choose somewhere that suits you. Possible settings include the beaches at Holkham and Wells-next-the-Sea, the woodland around Thetford Forest, and the lanes and parks around Norwich. If you’re planning something more intimate, an engagement session pairs naturally with an elopement or a relaxed winter wedding.
Engagement shoot FAQs
Practical answers about pre-wedding sessions. Anything else? Send a message — replies within 24 hours.
How long is an engagement session?
Usually one to two hours — long enough to relax into it and try a couple of locations, short enough that it never feels like a chore. We keep it easy and unhurried.
Do we need to do anything to prepare?
Not really. Wear something you feel good in, pick a place that means something to you, and leave the rest to me. I’ll send a few simple suggestions on timing and light beforehand so it’s effortless on the day.
Is an engagement shoot included in your packages?
Some couples add a pre-wedding shoot to their wedding photography package, others book one as a standalone session. Just mention it when you enquire and I’ll put together the right option for you.
Can we use the photos for save-the-dates?
Absolutely — that’s one of the most popular reasons to book one. You’ll get a gallery of edited images you can use for save-the-dates, your wedding website, guest book and prints.
How do we book?
Send your details and a rough idea of when and where via the contact form — I’ll confirm availability, usually within 24 hours.
Let’s plan your engagement session.
Tell me roughly when and where you’d like to shoot, and whether it’s a standalone session or part of your wedding coverage. Replies within 24 hours.
